Privacy Policy
Birdorama is a place to collect, organize, and share the birds you've seen. Here's how we handle your information.
Information we collect
When you use Birdorama, we may collect:
- Your name, display name, and email address.
- Information needed to manage your account and sign-in.
- Bird sightings, including species, dates, counts, and locations.
- Photographs or other content you choose to upload, where supported.
- Photo-sharing requests, moderation decisions, and reports about public photographs.
- Technical information necessary for security and website operation.
Google sign-in
If you sign in with Google, Birdorama receives basic account information such as your name, email address, and profile picture, depending on the permissions granted.
We use this information to identify your account and provide sign-in functionality.
Birdorama does not request access to your Gmail messages or Google Drive files.
How we use information
We use personal information to operate Birdorama, maintain accounts, organize bird collections, enable sharing, respond to support requests, and protect the service.
We do not sell users' personal information.
Sharing your birds
Birdorama lets you choose whether to share your Life List, Best Birds, or individual Day Lists.
Sharing is optional.
People with an active public sharing link may see the information included in that shared collection, such as your display name, bird photographs, and species records.
Private account details and precise observation coordinates should not appear in public collections.
You can disable public sharing and revoke sharing links.
Information someone has already downloaded or saved may remain in their possession after a link is revoked.
Photographs
Birdorama may display appropriately licensed photographs from Wikimedia Commons and other sources.
Photographers retain their applicable rights.
You retain ownership of photographs you upload and grant Birdorama the permissions necessary to store, process, and display them in connection with the service. Uploads are resized and re-encoded before storage to remove embedded metadata, including GPS coordinates.
Only upload bird-related, general-audience photographs you own or have permission to use. Personal photos are private by default. Public photo sharing needs both your permission and administrator approval; representative photographs appear publicly until approval.
Administrators manually review photos submitted for public sharing and reports about public photos. There is no automated content or copyright screening. Prohibited or reported photos may be removed from public display, and repeated abuse may result in upload or public-photo restrictions. Rejected photos are not automatically deleted from private collections.
Visitors can report public photos, including copyright concerns. Reports include the photo, species, shared page, reason, optional explanation, submission time, and a hashed network identifier used to limit abuse. Rights holders can also contact hello@birdorama.club. Previously downloaded or copied photos cannot be recalled.
eBird imports
Birdorama allows users to import exported eBird observation files.
Imported information is used to build and organize your collection.
CSV importing does not grant Birdorama ongoing access to your eBird account.
Birdorama is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by eBird or Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Service providers
Birdorama uses third-party services, including Supabase for authentication and application data, Google for optional sign-in, Lovable and hosting infrastructure for website operation, and image providers for appropriately licensed photographs.
These services may process information as necessary to provide their functionality.
Cookies
Birdorama uses cookies and similar technologies necessary for sign-in, account sessions, security, and website functionality.
Any additional analytics or tracking technologies should be disclosed if introduced.
Security and data retention
We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Information is retained as necessary to provide the service and meet applicable legal or security obligations. Replacing or deleting a personal photo, or switching back to a representative photo, schedules its unreferenced stored file for removal. Failed cleanup is retried; existing uploads are not bulk-processed. Moderation decisions and reports are retained for review and abuse prevention. Contact links open your email application; Birdorama has no contact-form submission service.
